Photorealistic Vector Packaging Mockup
This design was created from fully vectorized 2D elements made in Adobe Illustrator which for print and packaging production. Photos to be used for marketing and website purposes showing the entire package needed to be developed. Instead of taking photos of the package in a lightbox or studio I decided to create a photorealistic mockup of the packaging through Photoshop utilizing smart objects. Below I briefly demonstrate and explain the process in which I was able to create this mockup.
All the separate elements were designed and created within Adobe Illustrator. By having all design elements as vector objects allows greater flexibility in scaling, and object manipulation in further steps in Photoshop.
The final design is made for print and production. The layout is made for the construction/template of the package to be folded and glued to contain the contents of the product. As you can see the final print file is much darker than the previous example. The colors in this example are the true colors for print, while the previous image shows the colors that much the real-life printed package which will inevitably appear duller.
To create the realistic mockup that appears fairly life-like I imported the side and front of the package into Photoshop, converted them into smart objects and transformed the points of the objects to make create angled perspectives. Shadows, creases, lighting, etc. layers are added to enhance the realistic appearance.
